Retired from Stelco in 1996 after 34 years of service as an Environmental Control Specialist, now working in health and safety doing PreStart Reviews, creating SDSs, and being Secretary of a number of JHSCs. Currently working for Hatch Consultants and FibreCast Inc. on a scheduled part time basis. He worked at Stelco/USSC as a student, supervisor, specialist and now as a part-time consultant for 57 years and counting.
Born and raised in Hamilton, he graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from McMaster in 1962 and from U of T as a certified Industrial Hygienist in 1972. Joined ASHRAE in 1966 and has continued active membership for some 50 years. Served on the Society’s Board of Directors and many other Society and Regional committees for 48 years. He is a member of the Society’s TC 4.4 and 4.8 Industrial Ventilation for many years. He received the Society’s Distinguished Service Award in 1988, the Exceptional Service Award in 2013 and the 50 Year Exceptional Service Award in 2016. George served on the Hamilton Chapter Executive for several decades from 1967 with the most recent position as Chapter Historian since 1993.
He believes that the regular participation at ASHRAE’s Chapter and Society Technical Meetings has enabled him to be successful as a consultant after his permanent employment at Stelco.
